A prohibitory order’s been slapped on Phungling Bazaar and the Pathibhara area in Taplejung district, and it’s causing quite the stir. Apparently, the District Administration Office decided to roll this out starting this morning, all because of some heated drama over a cable car project in Pathibhara. Chief District Officer Netra Prasad Sharma dropped the news late Saturday night, saying the prohibitory orders were necessary for the district’s headquarters, including Phungling Bazaar and Pathibhara area.

Well, things got ugly Saturday evening when the “no cable car” crowd and the police went at it in Phungling market. The situation turned messy, and now, boom prohibitory orders.he order was enforced under Local Administration Act 2028 BS, Section 6 (3) (a).

From 5 AM, movement is restricted until further notice. The ban covers Fungling Bazaar, stretching east to Dokhu Salleri, west to Ghochonu and Thalangdhar, north to Ukali Pani, and south to Sherpa Toll and Veterinary Kanchenjunga Toll. Similarly, in the Pathibhara area, restrictions extend 100 meters around the tourist police building on the east, Balu Danda on the west, the Cable Car Base Station in the north, and the under construction new bus park in the south.

No groups of more than five people are allowed. Protests, rallies, or public gatherings are strictly not permitted in these areas. The tensions have been rising. On Saturday, police clashed again with protesters at Phungling headquarters. Last Thursday, a similar fight broke out at the cable car construction site in Pathibhara.
