Nepal’s digital payment landscape is about to change forever. Two of the country’s largest digital wallets, Khalti and IME Pay, have officially signed an agreement to merge, making history as the first-ever e-wallet merger in Nepal. The deal was finalized on Sunday, setting the stage for a single platform that will bring together the best features of both apps.

Once the merger is complete, the new wallet will be called 'IME Khalti', according to an official from IME Pay. He also mentioned that more details about how this integration will work will be shared soon.

This merger has been made possible by recent amendments to the Payment and Settlement Regulations, 2077 BS, introduced by Nepal Rastra Bank. The updated regulations allow licensed payment service providers to merge or acquire each other, fostering growth and consolidation in the fintech sector.

Experts believe that IME Khalti will soon become Nepal’s largest digital wallet in terms of users. With the combined strengths of both platforms, customers can expect a seamless experience and a wider range of services in a single app.

This is a major step for Nepal’s digital economy, bringing financial services closer to the people and making cashless transactions even more accessible. More updates on the transition, new features, and customer benefits will be announced in the coming weeks as the integration process moves forward.
