KATHMANDU, NEPAL — Nepal’s Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, met with India’s Minister of Power, Manohar Lal Khattar, in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss bilateral energy collaboration. The meeting took place on the sidelines of ‘India Energy Week-2025’, which Khadka is attending.
During the talks, Khadka acknowledged India’s role in facilitating Nepal’s electricity exports to Bangladesh through Indian transmission infrastructure. He formally requested India’s Power Ministry to approve 24-hour access to the Indian Power Exchange (PX) for Nepal, citing restricted availability during winter evenings (6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.). Additionally, he sought India’s clearance to export future electricity generated by Nepal’s self-funded Tamakoshi hydropower project.
In response, Indian Power Minister Khattar reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s energy sector development. “Energy cooperation between our countries will advance through mutual dialogue and collaboration,” he stated. Khattar also urged Nepal to streamline processes for Indian companies executing energy projects in Nepal.
The meeting included technical discussions on cross-border power trade mechanisms and grid connectivity.
