Work on three hydropower projects has just started in Mudi, Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4, in the district. These projects, located on the Myagdi River near the base of Mt. Dhaulagiri, will provide a total capacity of 155 megawatts. The projects include Upper Myagdi-I, with a capacity of 53.5 megawatts, the 65-megawatt Myagdikhola Hydropower Project, and the 37-megawatt Upper Myagdi Hydropower Project.
Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality Chair, Prem Prasad Pun, shared that three out of eight planned hydropower projects along the Myagdi River, as well as its tributaries Gurja and Mudi rivers have started construction.
The Upper Myagdi-1 Hydropower Project will feature a dam in Khamla, Mudi, and a powerhouse in Malika Rural Municipality-7, Bharbang. The project has already built an access road and begun work on the tunnel and dam infrastructure, according to Project Chief Jyoti Kumar KC.
The 65-megawatt Myagdikhola Hydropower Project, with its dam in Mudi and powerhouse in Jeltung, has completed the access road to the powerhouse. They are now preparing to build the tunnel and other infrastructure at Jeltung, located six kilometers from Naura.
Project Chief KC explained that they plan to begin construction of both the tunnel and the expansion of the access road from the powerhouse to the dam at the same time.
The 37-megawatt Upper Myagdi Hydropower Project, based in Mudikai, has completed the access road and is now preparing to start tunnel construction, according to Jit Bahadur Gharti, the project’s Managing Director. With these hydropower projects, road access has now been provided to remote areas like Khamla, Naura, and Khibang Bagar in the district.
